Building the future of table tennis in Guyana.
The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) is the national governing body responsible for the administration, development, promotion and advancement of table tennis throughout Guyana. For generations, the Association has provided the pathway through which Guyanese players, coaches, officials and administrators can participate in the sport — from introductory and school programmes to national championships and international competition.
As Guyana's recognised table tennis federation and an affiliate of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), the GTTA forms part of a global sporting structure connecting Guyanese table tennis with the Caribbean, the Americas and the wider international table tennis community.

Our story
Table tennis has a long and proud history in Guyana. Historical records place the formation of the Guyana Table Tennis Association in 1948, with Guyana becoming affiliated to the International Table Tennis Federation in 1958 — among the associations involved in establishing organised Caribbean table tennis competition that same year.
Since then, the GTTA has overseen decades of national competition, international representation, coaching development, officiating programmes and initiatives aimed at expanding participation across Guyana. The Association has also played a significant role in Caribbean table tennis, hosting major regional competitions including the 53rd Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships in 2011, while continuing to send national teams to Caribbean, continental and international championships.
Through different generations of athletes and administrators, the objective has remained consistent: to create opportunities for Guyanese to participate in table tennis and to develop athletes capable of competing successfully on the international stage.
What we do
The GTTA oversees the national table tennis ecosystem in Guyana, with responsibilities spanning grassroots participation through high-performance sport. Our work includes:
- Organising national championships, leagues and developmental competitions.
- Selecting and preparing national teams to represent Guyana internationally.
- Developing junior and senior athletes through structured training and competition.
- Supporting clubs, schools and community table tennis programmes.
- Developing and certifying coaches, umpires and other technical officials.
- Facilitating international training and competitive opportunities for Guyanese athletes.
- Expanding access to equipment and playing opportunities throughout the country.
- Working with international, regional and national sporting partners to strengthen the administration and development of table tennis.
- Creating pathways from introductory participation to national representation and elite performance.
Developing the game across Guyana
One of the GTTA's central priorities is making table tennis accessible to more people, particularly young players. Schools have therefore become an important component of the Association's development strategy, bringing new players into the sport through schools and communities while simultaneously strengthening the country's coaching structure.
The GTTA has also worked with national and international partners to expand access to equipment. Through collaboration involving the Government of Guyana, the Ministry of Education and the People's Republic of China, table tennis tables have been distributed to support greater exposure to the sport within Guyanese schools.
In 2024, the Association also received competition and development equipment through an ITTF development programme, including competition tables, nets, umpire tables, balls and racquets — supporting decentralisation, talent identification, national training, club development and competitions in communities beyond Georgetown, including areas such as Berbice, Bartica and Region Two.
For the GTTA, expanding the game means creating a national system in which talent can be discovered and developed regardless of geography.

From grassroots to the international stage
Development does not end with participation. The GTTA is responsible for preparing Guyanese athletes to progress through the competitive pathway — from national age-group tournaments to Caribbean Championships, continental events, World Championships, multi-sport Games and the Olympic Games. Over the years, Guyana has produced generations of players who have represented the Golden Arrowhead across the Caribbean and internationally.
That pathway continues today. The Association maintains senior and emerging national squads while developing a new generation of athletes through youth competition and international exposure. In 2025, the GTTA announced senior and Next Gen squads as part of its strategy to strengthen both current national teams and the country's future talent pipeline.
Guyana's progression on the international stage has also included qualification for major multi-sport competitions. In 2026, Guyana's senior men's team secured qualification for the Central American and Caribbean Games alongside individual qualification in the women's competition, demonstrating the continued presence of Guyanese table tennis at regional elite level.

Building better players, coaches and officials
Strong athletes require a strong sporting system. The GTTA therefore places significant emphasis on developing the people surrounding the game — including coaches, umpires, administrators and tournament personnel.
Guyana has hosted ITTF coaching certification programmes and international umpiring and refereeing initiatives, helping to build the technical expertise required to deliver the sport professionally. Historical programmes have produced dozens of trained coaches and officials, while more recent ITTF programmes have continued to strengthen local coaching capacity.
This investment in human resources is essential to building a sustainable national structure capable of identifying talent, delivering quality training and organising competitions according to international standards.

Partnerships for development
The development of table tennis in Guyana has been supported by partnerships across government, sport, education, diplomacy and the private sector. The GTTA has worked alongside organisations including the International Table Tennis Federation, regional table tennis authorities, the Government of Guyana, the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Education and international development partners.
Guyana's relationship with the People's Republic of China has also contributed significantly to the development of the sport through equipment, technical cooperation and coaching support — introducing Chinese coaching expertise into Guyana's national programme, while equipment initiatives have helped increase access to the sport.
These partnerships strengthen the GTTA's ability to provide opportunities that would otherwise be difficult to deliver through a national federation operating independently.
A modern vision for Guyanese table tennis
The next chapter of Guyanese table tennis is about more than competition — it is about building a modern sporting system. The GTTA's development agenda increasingly encompasses improved facilities, stronger coaching structures, athlete career development, sports science, technology and innovation alongside traditional player-development programmes.
Priorities identified for the future include a dedicated table tennis headquarters, expanded coaching programmes, athlete career development and greater integration of sports science and emerging technologies into athlete preparation and recovery — complementing the wider international movement toward strengthening Member Associations, youth development, governance and education across table tennis.
Executive committee
The GTTA is governed by an elected executive committee responsible for the Association's strategy, competitions and international representation.
Executive committee profiles will appear here once published.
Our commitment
The Guyana Table Tennis Association is committed to creating a national table tennis system that is accessible, competitive, professionally administered and capable of producing excellence. We believe in creating opportunities for children discovering the sport for the first time, supporting clubs and coaches working within their communities, developing officials who uphold the standards of the game, and providing our elite athletes with pathways to compete against the world's best.
From schools and community programmes to national teams carrying the Golden Arrowhead overseas, every level forms part of the same journey. Our ambition is to grow the game throughout Guyana, strengthen the institutions supporting it and develop generations of Guyanese athletes capable of succeeding across the Caribbean, the Americas, the Commonwealth, the world stage and the Olympic and Paralympic movements.
